Days 219, 220… Sihanoukville
Day 219… up early so Jo and I can ride a leisurely rickety ox cart together to breakfast. Then when done, the gang trek for about an hour up to a glorious waterfall for cooling shenanigans in the water. Then we head back to plant a tree and go all eco-friendly before we jump onto our private bus that takes us to Sihanoukville (approx 3 hrs). On the way we stop by a little holy place where i buy a red string woven perfuned bracelet from a Buddhist nun for luck and get blessed near a small sea of smoking, incense laden micro temples called SPIRIT HOUSES. Sadly all trip we have enough been warned not to touch or feed the monkeys… but apart from one household pet, not a single screeching, poo-flinging monkey!
Named for the Cambodian royal family, Sihanoukville has miles of beaches and warm, welcoming people. After we check in its time to wander this touristy town and all the pick pockets that entsils. It’s actually not that bad… like anywhere… Stay smart and you will be fine. The locals are actually tally quite well versed in english in the Cambodian cities and are quite freindly. Then we stop at a pub where i buy a tower of beer for everyone. .. migrate to dinner and then retreat to the a/c in the hotel.
Day 220… Take a boat to one of the nearby islands, where we get to enjoy a free breakfast and barbecue lunch and relax among swaying palms, white sands and blue waters. On the way we get to snorkel over the reefs of one island, enjoying it immensely. Then we get to the gorgeous picturesque beach there and relax in the sun. Apparently for too long… see tomorrow Day 221. But for now we enjoy it, then boat to and new snorkel location where i slash my foot open on coral/rocks before going home. The restaurant is amazing and I have the best bangers n mash with peas, gravy and HP sauce since the U.K! Then its an early night with aloe Vera as most of us succumb to he heat.
