Day 198… Tokyo is a dynamic, modern hub, the thriving capital of an ancient land. Contradictions are everywhere, as hi-tech gadgetry and neon lights play an integral part in the lives of a population steeped in tradition. So my first port of call is kill time at skytree tower and grab a japanese hot dog. And here we say goodbye to my Air BnB to check in at my hotel, a handy 15 minutes stroll away. At the new hotel, which is very traditional japanese style with crouching showers, folded bedding, i get to meet the new group. At the amazing evening meal, one girl comes in late thanks to flight issues. So after i offer to show her the Sensoji Temple at night and a little more serene, then then a crazy japanese arcade where i eat an icecream, half purple sweet yam, half brown sugar flavours. Oh… and may I say that the toilets here are bizarre yet fancy… being heated, include a 3 way bidet, music, lights, motion sensors to auto raise the lid and a blow dry! And today i saw the most amazing act of selflessness… crazy guy… possibly homeless… but not in a bad way. Crouched in the street with all his posessions, including 2 toy trains he obviously loved. Couple with little girl behind him, girl cries for some kiddie reason, without blinking he got up and offered her a train. She did not take it, but I was quite moved by that… we could all be as kind… me included to be honest.
