Day 175… Traveling today by private bus to Suzdal (approx 5 hours). Suzdal is one of the fascinating towns on the so-called ‘Golden Ring’ – a group of ancient and former capitals of Russia. It’s a beautiful place that feels like a fairytale, with many glittering onion domes dotting the skyline, opportunities to drink Russian beer by the riverside, and a symphony of cathedral bells to be heard. Crumbling churches and lovingly decorated wooden cottages line the narrow streets and alleys of this magical spot. Here we stay in traditional a cool wooden guesthous in one of Suzdal’s quiet streets. After check in we head out to see the interior of Suzdaal’s own kremlin as it is closed tomorrow (FYI… Kremlin means FORTRESS, so there are a lot of kremlins… but only one THE Kremlin in Moscow). Glad i did too as apart from the museum, it lets me intomthier russian orthodox church where i can finally get some photos and video of the beautiful murals and frescoes. At night i am in charge of purchasing the gift for our dinner hostess (Helen #2) as we visit the home of one of a local lady to indulge in a dinner of hearty regional flavours… and helping make some traditional Russian bikkies
