Day 154… Morning comes and a third of the group do the full day hike/white water rafting/ 12 meter bridge jump into the river adventure. Another third hire a bike and head out to Vintgar Gorge (4 km) and walk through the natural canyon. Me? I grab fellow travellers Bec and our guide Peter and book in too the half day canyoning adventure… which was a ZARKING BLAST! Hike up a steep hill for half an hour, then it’s done wetsuits and hard hats for 2 hours of abseiling and leaping into ICY COLD AS A MOTHER-IN-LAW’S IN LAWS HEART water rock pools, before abseiling out again and floating down the river back to the vans. Sen-smegging-sational stuff.
After that we catch a pletna (small wooden boat) and row over to the island in the middle of the lake to visit the church and clocl tower there and ring the wishing bell in the church 3 times. Apparently tradition is if u marry u must carry the bride up the steep long stairs to the church. When done a relaxing row back to shore we head up to explore Bled Castle, perched atop the 100-metre cliff overlooking the lake. And of course for a sample of Bled cuisine, I HAD to try Bled cake – a vanilla, custard, cream and pastry delight very reminiscent of the aussie vanilla sloce, but vastly tastier with lightly whipped vanilla custard topped with whipped cream and then pastry roof. Seriously tasty. Finally we head back to dinner at a local grill/BBQ place where tour buddy Ian and I share a 1.2kg t-bone steak… omnomnomnom
