Day 152… Wake up to go on some bike ride fun. With so much to see and do, most of the group decide to hire a bicycle and bike tour guide to see the city sights such as the Danube River, the House of Terror (museum to communist attrocities… and a fabulously designed building), the Turkish Baths, Zoo Elephant House and the bridges linking Buda to Pest. The biggest the Chain Bridge, which offers for a spectacular view of the Parliament Building (one of the most beautiful parliament buildings on earth) and the Castle District. After the bike ride, Bec and I travel an hour to go out to Monument Park to see all the communist monuments that were removed from the city streets after the fall of the Iron Curtain. Interesting stuff, but oddly unpopular as there was hardly a soul there but us. When done we return to Budapest and, because Beckham is super tired she goes smoothly to buy a gift and go home. I try for the Miniversum miniature villlage only tomfind that AS OF TODAY it is closed for renovations. Dammit. Well its off to the aleys to find some ruin-bars.. pubs set up in the ruins of old buildings. Nothing spectacular a outt them… very hipster so i avoid them like the proverbial plague, get some great street art photos and then stumble onto a barber with free beer… and I desperately need a haircut. Job done I find a great restaurant with Hungarian goulash with traditional hungarian ‘gnocchi’ with with a side dish of pickled veggies, a coke, and finally a walnut and pistachio mousse. YUMMO!!!Then back to hotel through the refugees protesting (see news story previously) to shower n blog.
