Day 139… Amsterdam is spoilt for museums. And one of its best is the Rijksmuseum, whose most famous resident is Rembrandt’s ‘The Night Watch’. However a few things occurred before I get there. First of all I go to an outdoor store to get new luggage. I find a seriously nice bag then discover there is a similar one on sale 50%off! Bargain and sold! Only 1 teensy issue… the small day pack I have been using lo these many months was the last bit of my original luggage that got ripped open on day smegging one… and in the big bag was the original bigger backpack. No more room for bigger pack. Had to say bye bye to the little one. A tear was shed.
First cab off the rank here is meeting Jeremy and Michelle to check out the uber creepy BODYWORKS exhibit… actual people corpses skinned and the musculature put on display after being plasticised… freaky man!
Now, off i go to visit the Rijksmuseum, which holds a ton of art, including the enormous and impressive Rembrandt’s ‘The Night Watch’, a nice Vincent van Gogh and more. Intriguingly in the gift shop, the Rijksmuseum has done a a deal with toy company Playmobil to do a Rembrandt’s ‘The Night Watch’ toy set. Cute. After seeing the painted variety, i then treat my eyes again with a wander through the Stedljik Modern art museum… some good stuff but of course also full of pretentious dodgy art and existentialism… BUT IS IT ART!?!?!? After that the gang head to the Ice Bar which we all agreed was utter garbage. Only good because we were all there making fun of it all.
