Day 36, 37, 38 San Cristobal de las Casas
After breakfast we take another bus to the city of San Cristobal de las Casas (approx. 8 hours) with a stop at a depressing zoo… but it also housed some impressive Olmec artifacts. The bus gave us the full Mexican experience with 6 breakdowns making our 8 hour trip a 12 hour one… but the overturned & melted chicken-truck + the ute it hit did add to the fun… I wandered the whole length of the accident to stumble on some new friends!
So finally in town, we meander the winding cobblestone streets and colonial Spanish architecture at 10pm for a late dinner at the BEST restaurant so far. Reasonable prices & the BEST steak i have ever eaten ANYwhere! The next day was spent strolling through the streets & markets of San Cristobal de las Casas, check out the amber, chocolate & Jade Museums, a regional art gallery & 2 lovely churches efore getting lost in the utter CHAOS of the local markets!
